THE NINE CHAKRAS
There are nine chakras in the Sri Chakra.
The point, the triangle, the eight-cornered figure, the two ten-edged figures, the fourteen
Sixteen petals, the three circles, and the three Bhupuras — This is mentioned as the Sri Chakra of the supreme Deity.
At times they are reckoned as eight by not couting the Bindu as in AruNopanishad: अष्टचक्रा…
These nine Chakras have each a distinct form and a distinct name.
The outermost is a square चतुरश्र of three lines, the lines one inside the other, opening out in the middle of each side as four petals.
This is known as भूपुर, the earth stretch. This is the ground-plane if Sri Chakra is considered as graded elevations, मेरु.
Through the portals in the भूपुर one enters the precincts.
Immediately inside the square are three concentric circles which serve as three girdles – त्रिवलय.
The space between the sides of the square and the circumference of the outermost circle,
Between भूपुर and त्रिवलय is known as त्रैलोक्य मोहन चक्र the enchanter of the triple world.
Inside the three girdles are sixteen petals arranged in the form of petals of lotus.
This series is known as सर्वाशा परिपूरक चक्र, the fulfiller of all desires.
The next are the eight petals arranged in a similar fashion. These form the सर्वसंक्षोभण चक्र the agitator of all.
Then the figure formed by super-imposition of five triangles with apex downwards on four triangles with apex upwards.
This figure so formed consists of 43 small triangles.
The outermost 14 triangled figure, चतुर्दश कोण is known as सर्व सौभाग्यदायक चक्र the giver of all auspiciousness.
The next figure inside made up of ten triangles known as outer दशार is called सर्वार्थसाधक चक्र the accomplisher of all purposes.
Inside there is again there is a ten-cornered figure, the inner दशार, सर्वरक्षाकर चक्र the giver of all protections.
Then comes the eight edged figure known as अष्ट कोण which is the सर्वरोगहर चक्र, the remover of all diseases.
Inside is the inverted primary triangle known as सर्वसिद्धिप्रद चक्र the giver of all accomplishments.
Innermost is the बिन्दु the सर्वानन्दमय चक्र full of all Bliss.
The significance of the names of Chakras comes from Sri Chakra which emanated from कामकला the primordial desire of love and bliss.
In the outermost the Chakra appears as त्रैलोक्य मोहन the enchanter of the triple world.
The being in his triple state comes under the spell and can rest content here for a very long time.
If he proceeds further, there is hankering in his heart for what, he does not know yet.
This takes the form of various desires and these are fulfilled in सर्वाशा परिपूरक.
But, the fulfilment of desires leads one nowhere; there comes discontentment, an unrest and an agitation.
This state of agitation, सर्वसंक्षोभण is good because only from here one proceeds to the inner precints of progress.
Once the step is taken, all auspiciousness is granted, सर्व सौभाग्यद, all ends are accomplished, सर्वार्थसाधक.
The state is stabilized by affording all protection, सर्वरक्षाकर and by removing all discord, dishormony and disease सर्वरोगहर.
It leads to perfection in all things, सर्वसिद्धिप्रद.
Then the culmination is the identity with the original Bliss and Love सर्वानन्दमय from which the whole thing has started.
